Nev's most challenging project comprised three large paintings he referred to as his Water Trilogy.  These are large impressive pieces measuring around one and a half square metres and which took the best part of a year to complete.  To paint on this scale was a great ambition of Nev's.  He enjoyed the freedom that the size of the canvas gave him to explore the way in which water continually changes.

"I have long been fascinated by the changing qualities of water: its sound, its movement, its ability to reflect and refract light.  In my Water Trilogy I have sought to capture these changes: from the playful, bubbling Stream to the deep, steady flow of The River and finally on to the immense power of Sea, where, by selecting one rock and the movement of the sea over and around it, I have aimed to portray the strength of the Sea and the resilience of objects in its way. ​​
